Neal Franklin has dedicated his entire career to public service. From his early days as a firefighter to his current role as Smith County Judge, Neal has spent more than three decades working to protect and improve the lives of East Texans.
A Tyler native, Neal rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Tyler. He later led ETMC EMS, overseeing emergency medical services across 15 counties and managing a team of over 500 professionals.
In 2021, Neal brought his deep leadership experience to the Smith County Commissioners Court, and today he continues that service as County Judge, focused on strengthening local services, expanding opportunity, and building a better future for every family in Smith County.
In addition to his professional commitment to the community, Neal is also passionate about the volunteer work he does in the nonprofit sector. He has served on the Board of Directors for groups including the Better Business Bureau, Children’s Park of Tyler, Alzheimer’s Alliance of Smith County, and the BCFS/Baptist Child and Family Services, among many others.
Neal and his wife Valli have been married for 39 years. They live in Bullard, where they enjoy time with their children and grandchildren, and are active members of Emerald Bay Community Church.
