Why Neal?

Neal Franklin is committed to helping the Smith County region become an even greater place to live, work, and raise a family. Following a successful year in office as your Precinct 1 County Commissioner, he now plans to expand his personal ability even further to serve our community as your next County Judge, making an impact on the lives of everyone in Smith County and beyond. Neal is focused on improving opportunities and services for the people of Smith County. He firmly believes in the power of public service and relationships to affect positive change in our communities.

Why am I running for Smith County judge?

“I believe that it is imperative that the citizens of Smith County understand why I desire to be their County Judge. I have dedicated my entire career to public service and view this opportunity to serve as a continuation of that service. I am so proud of where we are as a County and I intend to continue moving forward as we foster relationships across the County. I care deeply about the future of our community. It is my passion to serve and improve the lives of the citizens and employees of Smith County.”

Fire Chief / Emergency Management Coordinator / General Manager / County Commissioner

Neal has over 30 years leadership experience thanks to his time in the Fire and EMS field. During his tenure across a diverse range of roles, he managed multi-million dollar budgets, hundreds of employees, and was the Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Tyler for more than 7 years.

Neal led the push to reduce the ISO rating for the city of Tyler from a 3 to a 2, which saved the citizens of Tyler over 1 million dollars annually on their homeowner’s insurance premiums.

As the General Manager for ETMC EMS for over 7 years, he served all or part of 15 counties in East Texas, managing more than 500 employees as well as a multi-million dollar budget. Neal currently facilitates training for Core Insights, providing leadership training and strategic planning for corporations, non-profits, counties, and municipalities.

The wide range of projects Neal has worked on reflects his interest in improving quality of life for the people of East Texas. As Smith County Commissioner, Neal has proven his commitment to our community. As your next County Judge, Neal will continue to apply his can continue to apply his experience, knowledge, and passion to achieving his goals for the community.
